Scholarship Programs for Disadvantaged Youth.
College Scholarships: A total of three $1,000 scholarships are awarded every year to students from Morro Bay and Coast Union high schools. In addition, through an endowment created in honor of Garnet Coughlin, QIMB’s first president, we annually augment the Cuesta College Foundation’s scholarship funds for students planning to attend Cuesta College.
A separate endowment is used to help 5th through 9th grade students attend Cuesta’s College for Kids, a summer enrichment program. This endowment was established in memory of former QIMB presidents Bertha Tyler and Connie Wambolt.

Community Dinner in Morro Bay.
Several organizations sponsor the Community Dinner, including Quota International of Morro Bay. The Community Dinner takes place on Mondays at the Morro Bay Veterans Hall and is for anyone in need. QIMB members volunteer to cook and serve dinner about 4-5 times per year. Currently there are 70-80 people attending the Community Dinner.

Support for Local Veterans, Active Military and Their Families.
Quota International of Morro Bay (QIMB) has supported local veterans, active military personnel and their families for many years thanks to generous donations made on their behalf.
After 9/11 (2001), QIMB formed a Troop Support Committee and was actively involved in sending care packages to our service members stationed overseas. At the same time, we helped their families as well as veterans here at home.
Working with Central Coast Veterans Helping Veterans and the SLO Vet Center, QIMB assists vets with household expenses and much-needed personal items. In addition, we help vets with unexpected transportation costs.
We also support the National Guard Family Program at Camp Roberts.

Support for Local Schools.
Hearing and Speech: We have purchased and maintained sound amplification systems used in the classroom for hard-of-hearing students. During the COVID-19 pandemic we provided see-through face masks so that a speech therapist could work effectively with her students.
Literacy: We have purchased books for school libraries as well as bilingual books for use by elementary school students and their parents.
Adopt-a-Teacher: In cooperation with the Morro Bay Rotary Club, we participated in the Adopt-a-Teacher Program to show our appreciation for teachers’ hard work and dedication.

Support for Disadvantaged Families.
Through referrals from the community, we adopt families that are struggling financially and provide them with holiday gifts on an annual basis.

Family Care Network, Inc.
The Family Care Network is a local nonprofit, community-based organization that provides transitional housing and support services for former foster care youth (16-25 years of age). Moving from a foster-care home to a Family Care Network apartment is a moment filled with uncertainty. To help vulnerable teens feel welcome, QIMB recently assembled baskets - -filled with new sheets, blankets, comforters and personal-care items - - which will be placed in their new homes.
-
Pregnancy and Parenting Support of SLO County.
This social services organization provides expectant and new mothers with practical assistance. In the past we purchased infant car seats for distribution by this organization. Baby clothes and other things babies need were provided as a separate service project.
-
Morro Bay Maritime Museum.
We support the Morro Bay Maritime Museum, an educational venue for maritime history, science and technology. Admission is free and school tours are available.
-
Project Surf Camp.
In the past we supported Project Surf Camp, a nonprofit located in Morro Bay. This organization offers a half-day summer camp experience for youth with special needs. Participants receive small-group or private instruction in surfing or stand-up paddle board with specialists providing feedback and support.

Lumina Alliance.
In the past we supported Lumina Alliance which serves SLO County and provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for survivors of domestic violence.
